Arp Kovacs cannot be described by one style, he does not like conventions, he would not like to use only one way of approach, his individuality is searching for new possibilities and perspectives all the time. However, up to now it was a fact that only a line or a colour dominates his pictures.

Jean-Christophe Ammann Director, Museum of Modern Art

lt is a process of searching constantly in new contexts that Arp Kovacs pursues, contexts that enwreathe like memories and gaps in the memories, which, like tracks of memory, will be joined with an emotional suddenness. Doubts mingle with fulfilment. Doubts can become an assertion that will immediately be cast into question again

Ilona Szabo University of Klausenburg

The colours convey emotions and moods at the first glance and they also have tobe accurate, accurate and true. They may proclaim the mood of everyday life, a dull everyday life or the objection to desolation, they may tell about sadness and coldness but sometimes they mirror an intimate mood.

Gideon Ofrat Professor University of Jerusalem

Kovacs endeavours to fix the erotic firmly in its place, the contour is merely a stage in the painting process which finally ends in turning the woman into a sculpture of stone; interring the living and dynamic in the timeless and eternal stillness.

Statement

Reality, Sensations, Space

The essence and core of my aspirations, as of my works, is the search for reality. I
conceive reality in terms of a large complex, which encompasses everything: that which
is known and that which is unknown, that which is visible and that which is invisible. In
painting, I divide reality into two sectors: objective and non-objective reality, by which I
mean the concrete objective-social environment on the one hand and my emotional-
spiritual involvement on the other, both of which constantly evoke a variety of
sensations. The canvas, that is, the spatial surface, is the meeting place of the manifold
sensations coming from every direction. In developing the work, I try to carry out the
maximal integration of these sensations, lending expressive, pictorial and structural
values, their basic importance. I consider the painting completed when the subjectively
true reality and sensations are adequately reflected, while the plastic unity is maintained
and functions independently.
